Letter from President

First and foremost, thank you for your interest in the SDSU Real Estate Society (RES). RES has quickly become one of the top student organizations at SDSU, both in terms of membership and successful job placement, and is now the preeminent student real estate organization in all of San Diego with around 80 members per semester.  RES provides unparalleled educational, scholarship, networking, and job placement opportunities for both students and industry veterans alike. Regardless of whether you are a freshman at SDSU looking to further your education in real estate or a real estate related field, or you are an experienced industry veteran looking for top-tier real estate talent, RES is ready, willing and able to help.

When I joined the San Diego State University Real Estate Society in Fall off 2010, my expectations were minimal. However, by the end of my first semester with RES, I learned what every other member of RES quickly learns—RES provides every opportunity imaginable to students with real estate or real estate related interests, goals and ambitions.  As a real estate major at SDSU, I figured it couldn’t hurt to meet some other students with similar goals and ambitions and perhaps learn a thing or two in the process. Two semesters later, I’ve formed friendships with countless individuals that will likely last a lifetime. I’ve established professional relationships with many of San Diego’s top real estate professionals, and had the opportunity to help other students with less experience than myself—an experience of immeasurable intrinsic  value to me personally. In addition, the friendships I’ve formed through my affiliation with RES are based on more than most friendships—we all share many of the same ambitions, goals, and desires to be a part of something great while helping others in the process. It’s not every day that an opportunity like RES presents itself. Like most college students, RES members share the ability and desire to have fun. Yet when the party is over, our members are the ones thinking about their goals and the next step forward, not the next party. Our members are highly capable of and focused on succeeding, no matter the cost.

Having personally worked in a variety of fields within the greater real estate industry for the last eight years, most recently in commercial real estate and real estate investment banking, I was particularly concerned that the Real Estate Society was potentially too narrowly focused on residential real estate to provide the value and resources I was seeking. Thankfully, my concerns were unwarranted. RES specifically  focuses on a variety of real estate and real estate related fields, including but not limited to, real estate development, finance and investment banking, accounting as it pertains to real estate companies, land planning and public administration, property management, appraisal, construction management and engineering, and much more.

The Real Estate Society has successfully placed (and continues to place) students from all majors into real estate and real estate related fields each and every semester. RES’ bi-weekly meetings and case studies focus on developing the skills and contacts necessary to secure the appropriate position upon graduating, while RES’ end of the semester and end of the year networking events provide members with the opportunity to meet over 100 top industry professionals that come to RES’ events with the sole purpose of meeting members looking for employment.  RES members from majors including accounting, finance, marketing, real estate, communications, management, and public administration continue to successfully enter the workforce immediately upon graduating.

Regardless of your real estate experience level or major, we’d love to hear from you. Please feel free to contact a chairperson on the RES Board of Directors, or myself personally for more information.

Sincerely,

Bryan Clark
